Yet another window opens - I'm not quite sure the contents of which folder it displays on your PC, possibly of a folder containing the SE2 exe. Click Browse, and a new window opens, which shows the contents of the Steam\Steamapps\Common\Space Empires II folder. Click Local Files, and the window display changes to the Local Files section. Right-click Space Empires II, and then left-click Properties. When you're in Steam, go to Library - Home, and then scroll to the SE2 line in the game list on the left. Unfortunately, otvdm can't be used to run the SE3 ingame tutorial (although SE3 itself seems to run under otvdm, despite a warning that SE3 isn't 16-bit). Or copy the whole Steam SE2 folder elsewhere, (delete the SE2 subfolder if you want to save space or duplications), rename it to OTVDM (or whatever you like) and run otvdmw.exe from there.

Of course, you can download, install and run this emulator separately - search the internet for otvdm. When you double-click the link icon, you'll be taken straight to Stars!.īackgound is that Steam runs SE2 (not SE3) via a 16-bit emulator, which you can use to run other 16-bit programs (like SE2), too. Alternatively, you can create a link to otvdmw.exe on your desktop, open properties and attach the full path of your stars.exe (without hyphens, quotes, etc) to the command line. Navigate to your Stars! folder and double-click stars.exe. When you run it, you'll get a selection window for the program to run. Your SE2 folder contains a file named otvdmw.exe. PS: For those who have SE2 on Steam, there is an easy way to run Stars!: And thanks again for the link to Stars! Autohost!
